The appearance of adaptive immunity in the Gnathostomata correlates with a dramatic increase in TF genes ( 1, 27). As part of this expansion, the full Gnathostomata basic helix-loop-helix E-protein family ( 28, 29) consisting of E2A (Tcf3), HEB (Tcf12), and E2-2 (Tcf4) emerged. ![]()
